Bite the Ballot – Mashonaland West Statistics.
Patsaka Trust is targeting to mobilizing 200000 plus youths in Mashonaland-West to register to vote in upcoming 2018 elections. Through a number of activities which were undertaken by the team favorable results have been obtained. In September 2017 the organization with assistance of YETT conducted a survey in Chinhoyi in which we were seeking reasons why most youth are not actively participating in the national processes. After obtaining some of the reasons the team went on to have a Training of Trainers (TOT) on how to mobilize other youth to partake responsibilities by participating in national processes. The group of the trainers consists of members from all the 6 districts in Mash-West. The trainers started to mobilize youth within their districts to register to vote. Patsaka Trust conducted a number of talk shows, focus groups, follow up sessions and surveys in the province in a bid to meet the expected targets set, of mobilizing as many youth as possible in the province.
Youth participation has boosted and continue to increase in Mash-West. According to ZEC current statistics Mashonaland West province has 284.266 registered youth. Harare province is the leading with 365.663 youth followed by Midlands with 321.379 and Mash West with 284.086 stands on number three. Kariba and Kadoma youth have more than half of the total number of people who registered to vote.
To a greater extent Bite the Ballot has been a success considering that the targeted number has been reached & exceeded and we are hoping to have increased numbers as we approach elections.
