KARIBA SHINES AT NAPH GAMES

Mash West NAPH ball games were held on the 6th to 9th of July for 2016 in the farming district of Chegutu.
Various disciplines took place like soccer, netball, handball, volleyball and soccer. Nyanhewe primary school, volleyball team representing Kariba District managed to clinch a gold medal to surprise all and sundry. This is a piece of history for Kariba district as no other team had ever represented the District at provincial level achieving such impressive results. According to Ms Madondo, the Nyanhewe school head, this is a great and historical achievement for the Kariba district coming under very difficult conditions.
She has appealed to stakeholders in the District to support the children in cash and kind. Ms Madondo highlighted that they are in need of balls and uniforms for the teams as they were poorly dressed at the competition in comparison to other districts. She looks forward to stakeholders like ZRA, ZPC, LAKE HARVEST, Padenga Holdings who have been supportive to other community sporting activities through sponsorship to come on board and assist. The team needs transport assistance and general welfare as they will now be representing the Mash West province at the National NAPH games to be hosted by Marondera from 19-22 July 2016.
Nyanhewe volleyball team (boys), clinched the gold medal by beating Mhangura in an exciting encounter which they won by 2 sets to 1. On the way to the final Kariba had to overcome other districts like Norton, Zvimba south,and Mhondoro Mubaira in the group stages.They went on to overspike Mhondoro Ngezi in the quarter finals.
Ms Mandunguza was ecstatic over their triumph in Chegutu and also appealed for financial support to help the kids realise their dream of being the national NAPH volleyball champions. She had high praises for the players with special mention of the Nyamanzi boy of Heights Primary School who was scooped the player of the tournament award. Mcvivian Kamuto, Tatenda Gangwa and Nyamanzi easily made it to the provincial team. On another note Lucia Makaza was also selected into girls provincial basketball team.
The volleyball team is coached by Mr Mutimodyo assisted by Mr Nyika and Kariba is now highly recognized.
